Stairway to Heaven

So...after spending the fortnight before Christmas stripping the town bare, it seems the local townsfolk are back, intent on stripping the town bare once more in the January sales. As some bloke from West Bromwich once noted:

"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven."

Yes, 'Stairway To Heaven' is a song about shopping. I'll bet you didn't know that.
I have money to spend and threads to buy, but the thought of venturing into the local gentleman's outfitters while the crowds swarm like hungry locusts is not an especially appealing one.
Of course, I am no saint. I am just as prone as anyone else to the lure of nice things. But I also try to remember the wise words of US comedian George Carlin:

"Trying to be happy by accumulating possessions is like trying to satisfy hunger by taping sandwiches all over your body."
