Dumped

It was as if
he had blindfolded her,
stuck her in a car
and driven her as far
into the wilderness
as he could
and left her there
- she was that lost without him.

But then she found herself saying
'Pull yourself together girl.'
She got out her stiff upper lip
and her map
and compass
(there were no satnavs
in those days)
and headed off
in the right direction
(sleeping rough,
living off the land)
until she found herself
by the coast,
by the sea,
where there are plenty more fish.
