Poppies and whisky

Hubby’s birthday today. We drove to Mohndorf, the town near the commercial poppy fields. The poppies haven’t bloomed yet, they start in about 2 weeks, but the garden with the decorative poppies is in full bloom. We had some Mohnnudeln (a local specialty of potato gnocchi with crushed poppy seeds, rum and butter) for lunch then walked to the poppy fields to show our visitor how they grow.
Later we went to a whisky distillery for a tour and tasting. Austria’s first whisky distillery was founded in 1995 by a farming family needing to expand their business. They based their whisky on Scottish methods but strove to develop their own style rather than copy. The Blip shows my visitor helping out at the pot stills. We came away with a warm glow and a few drams of whisky.
In the evening we had dinner at a hotel restaurant as Hubby wanted to have one of their excellent steaks.
