Beach Nuptials

The reason for our trip to California was to attend the wedding of this young man who we have known since birth. His parents are friends from before we were all married, both of them having done some of their medical training with my husband.  The groom was born 3 months after our #3 son and during their toddler, preschool and elementary school days they were good friends.  In middle school, they had a very successful DJ business together doing birthday parties.  When they went off to different high schools and colleges, they grew apart but we have remained close with the parents.

The wedding was on the beach. The bride, groom and wedding party were barefoot.  The bride is Irish and immigrated to the U.S. with her family when she was four.  As you can see there was a priest and a rabbi, who had clearly done this kind of wedding many times before.  They were quite funny, a bit competitive and made the wedding very personal and meaningful for the families.

I confess I did not take this photo. My husband did.  I usually leave my camera at home for these kinds of events, preferring to just enjoy the moment.  I have loaded an extra of the cute little flower girl who had a bit of difficulty maneuvering through the sand and so was aided by members of the wedding party.

After the ceremony, about 150 of us strolled a short distance down the beach to the beach club where the reception was held and we enjoyed lots of food, drink and dancing, and lovely speeches.  A good time was had by all.
