But, then again . . . . .

Another Ordinary.

We had visitors today, nephew and family, so no time to go out for a quick blip though I do have a few in mind for before I return to sunny Roslin next Saturday. Consequently today's blip is an indoor shot of no particular significance - just one of The Old Lady's vast collection of ornaments.

For the benefit of non-cyclists, a "penny-farthing" is known as an "ordinary", it's of historical significance. When Harry Lawson invented the modern bicycle in 1878 with the diamond shaped frame and relatively small wheels they called it the "Safety Bicycle" since the traditional "high wheeler" or "ordinary" cycle responded to its brake being applied by tipping the rider forward onto his face from a great height. By 1885 the safety bike had acquired a chain drive, as opposed to a treadle drive, and thus became the commercial success under the name of the "Rover Safety Bicycle" which led to the cycling boom of the 1890s.
Incidentally, I do know a Harry Lawson who has made a few bikes both for himself and Mrs HL but I don't think he's related to the original 1878 version.

Back to today's events, TOL woke up an hour before the nice young lady was due to arrive to help with her ablutions so I invited her to come down for breakfast while she waited, which she duly did. An hour later, having been abluted and returned to the living room, she was most disappointed to discover the debris from breakfast which signified that she had already eaten. I offered a second breakfast but it was declined, a shame really as, like Grandma Fagg, she needs her nourishment.

Now then, hands up, who out there remembers Grandma Fagg?
I've tried Googling the lady but can find no reference to her by name, so no one can argue with my memory this time.
