The Wood Stork and the Jumping Fish

I went to the pond earlier today and noticed this wood stork guarding the little spillway between the two separate parts of the pond. A little side and a big side.

We had rain last night and the water was flowing fairly rapidly from the small side to the big side. This had apparently stranded some of the smaller fish that usually dwelled in the smaller part on the large side.

The would swim against the current and get to the little waterfall and try to jump up to navigate back to the smaller part of the pond.

When they would jump the wood stork would throw his wings up and attempt to snatch the fish. He was very good at this little game as I watched him get a rather hearty lunch.

Look in this blip and directly left from the stork's head you will notice a small fish jumping. I can report with a certainty, and photographic evidence, that the wood stork caught this fish and had him as one of the courses of his very large lunch!! Enjoy.
