Sea and screen

Decided to get up early and head down to Portobello as it started bright and sunny. By the time I was walking along the sea's edge (extra) the clouds were pretty dramatic but it never actually rained. The boats were setting off for the rowing club - bet that's a great workout - it looks very strenuous!
Had a good walk listening to more of the book I'm working through - rather good and I may try and see the author at the book festival in August.
Home and read/commented on my PhD student's literature review then did a huge pile of ironing and made great progress. So nice to feel the flat is finally emerging from being such a mess.
Had to set off fairly early to go to the Film Festival closing night premiere. Was a good film, beautifully acted by Timothy Spall and Vanessa Redgrave, about L.S.Lowry and his relationship with his bitter and controlling mother. At the beginning Tim Spall was on stage with the Director and cast and said his own mother died 3 weeks ago, and that they had a vey different relationship. It must have been hard for him to watch. He's lost so much weight since I last saw him - hope he's not ill.
Decided not to go to the after party, instead came home with V to consider the bath/shower question and then finish reading the PhD chapter. A satisfying albeit very quiet weekend
