Above And Beyond...

Penterry Church

We did an old favourite walk of ours starting in St Arvans, near Chepstow (Monmouthshire, South Wales) and walking to Gaer Hill overlooking the Bristol Channel (both Severn Bridges) and Chespstow Race Course.  The highlight of the walk after the stunning views is seeing Peneterry Church which part dates from 955AD with most of the present building being from late 12th century. It's in the middle of a field, only accessible by foot! It was the hub of a village that was abandoned during the 'black death' (mid 14th century)

Churches are part of our heritage, not so well patronised these days by the masses but essential we keep them kept as part of the community.
