With the theme of "Patriotic", a timely one with our Independence Day celebration a few days away.  One more preview in Extras.

The photo is the general store in the center of our little town - on Thursday morning people will be lined up here and all along a 2 mile parade route - there will be many displays of patriotism and fire engines and homemade floats and horses and candy being thrown to the little ones, antique cars and the oldest and newest citizens of this small town will be riding in one.  It's billed as one of the best 4th of July celebrations in the state and people will come from surrounding towns.  Most likely we'll get our chairs to a good spot that will be shady early (temperatures are predicted to be in the 90s(F) and from there we'll watch the event unfold and visit with friends and acquaintances we haven't seen since last year.

With the current administration in the White House, I'm not feeling very patriotic at this time.  I feel embarrassed, incredulous and outraged.  I'm sitting here watching a cable TV commentary/news show (Rachel Maddow) and she is reporting on one of the detention centers on the border with Mexico.  At this particular one, it's mostly children under the age of 18 who have been separated from their parents or other relatives that they came to the US with.  The conditions are akin to how we would treat animals.
