Patriotism

“The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does , and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does ; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility while the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to a war .”
As I read a call to have tanks brought in for a 4th of July parade by the president for his desires,  I am appalled...not only at the extreme cost of millions  to us taxpayers this would involve, but the militaristic resemblence this has to the parades the N. Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un  and Russian dictator Putin insist upon.  This seems very nationalistic to me...not patriotic.
In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt:"True Patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom, and equality not only for Americans, but for all people on earth, universal brotherhood, and good will, and a constant and earnest striving toward the principles and ideals on which this country was founded."
Or in the words of Clarence Darrow"  True patriotism hates injustice in it's own land more than anywhere else"
And , finally in the words of Theodore Roosevelt. "Patriotism means to stand by the country, it does not mean to stand by the President."
I stand by my fellow patriots calling for children and parents, ripped apart at our borders, to be reunited....for a stop to this presidents horrific immigration policy of not letting asylum seekers in to legally apply for entrance here. Now the latest from our president is that he said he is considering deporting family members of active military men and women --family members presently here and not "legal".  It just gets worse.
I stand with all who RESIST policies perpetrated by this president that strip individuals of dignity, freedom and equality.
And...in the words of our first President George Washington " Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism".

Thanks to Carolina who has stepped up to now host Mono Mondays and has gotten us all off to a good start in  welcoming us into July!  And thanks to Laurie for a job well done!
