Inside Art

Day #3 of Summer School Fine Arts programme, and this morning we visited the Pera Museum where the current temporary exhibition is "Out of Ink" which the museum describes as: "Interpretations from Chinese Contemporary Art explores the essential ideals of the ink painting tradition as manifest in the work of 13 contemporary artists at work in China today."  This particular exhibit was one of my favourites not least for challenging the students' concept of art as being something that's hung on the wall to be viewed by the passive observer. The artist is Jian-Jun Zhang (b.1955) and he talks about this project in Istanbul here.

We also looked at all the other exhibits in this always beautifully curated, small but firm  favourite museum of mine before heading back to school for lunch.
