High tide at Ottermouth

As my sister is an early riser so we were up very early this morning and went for a stroll along the beach to Otterhead.  It was high tide and the estuary area was full of water.  A sunny still morning with a beautifully calm air.  There were a few fishermen out and a couple of early morning runners.  We walked back home and then the lesson in making sour dough bread commenced.  I had never realised just how much attention the loaf requires and how different the physical process is to yeasted dough.  It took all morning and we then put it in the fridge intending to cook it the next morning.  After lunch we set out for a local walk along the coastal footpath and then back to Otterton for a cup of tea before returning home.  The bread however had proved so much in the fridge that it required immediate cooking so about an hour later my first sourdough loaf was made.  It tasted good as well.

We also spotted insects flying around the pear and cherry trees in our garden at dusk and believe them to be summer chafers.  We didn't really notice them last year.
