Manchester decided that it would be kinder to do a five year programme of road works in one go over the course of one year. This will likely now take nearer to 18 months after their contractor went bust in the Spring. It has meant that my commute of 26 miles, 24 of them motorway, now takes a minimum of 3 hours each day round trip. Two hours of that just getting in & out of Manchester.
When you also factor in that the rail service here is probably the worse it has been for 20 years, a lot more people can no longer rely on it so have to drive or risk losing their jobs through persistent lateness.
Its been 12 months of abject fucking misery so far but hopefully will prove to be worth it come the autumn. Somehow i have my doubts.
