Who Pays The Ferryman?

This was taken on the way to Tesco's to buy-in provisions for our guests arriving Sunday. I have my essentials list and MrsB has added to this, Cocoa Body Butter. I often joke to her if I ever turned a Hannibal the Cannibal , she would taste sweet and with an aroma of cocoa. She practically bastes herself in the stuff daily.

On the way, I pulled over to take a quick shot of my favourite house on the island. Ynys Gored Goch is the tiny 'inhabited' island and 'fish-trap' set in the middle of the Menai Straits, and between the famous Telford and Stephenson bridges. The uninitiated sometimes mistake the straits for a big river running, given the huge races, but it is actually the sea, which enters and leaves from both directions each tide. This particular stretch is called The Swellies, and has it's own very elaborate transit plan for boats wanting to pass through (and only at slack water). Imagine living here and just popping out to buy some milk. But oh, just imagine the fishing!

Postscript: The translation of it's name into English is Red Weir Island, but it is also known as Whitebait Island after the Herring. These 'silver darlings' were trapped in the big weir pool as the tide receded , and were then smoked (as kippers presumably). The island dates from 1590 when was leased for £3 and a barrel of herrings a year. Every little helps.
