Remembering

After work today I went to sit with Virginia for a while. It was very peaceful. I noticed this poem outside the door while the staff were turning her. It might seem corny but just now it feels very apt.

It’s a privilege to be able to sit quietly with a dying person, and I wish I had more time to spend with her. The staff make sure that she is never on her own so even when her visitors leave, somebody is always in the room, holding her hand and talking to her. She always told me that she wasn’t afraid of death, and that she was surprised to have lived so long.
