Cumbria Here I Come

Looking towards the harbour

Tide was coming in at great speed this morning at Port Carlisle no doubt due to the strong wind! The dark structure in the background is the old harbour wall and at very low tide you can wander over to it and have a walk on the grassy mound behind the wall which I've done just the once.

Been looking on the internet.... there was a harbour and canal here from 1819 until 1853 and apparently the canal was built specifically to transport grain and produce for Carlisle's biscuit and feed mills and ended in the canal basin behind the McVities biscuit factory in Carlisle. I didn't know this, wonder if you can see it?

Woo hoo no rain today!!
