Geology At Work

That little piece of red tape isn't quite enough to make me feel safe. Even though it's on the wrong side of the fence, I've seen many a person sitting out on that point, watching the surfers at Steamer Lane, but those days are long gone. Apparently this cliff started to fail a couple days ago. The two giant dark boulders in the water on the right in the Extra used to be the front of the cliff, and there are several more minor crumbles visible along the vertical face. Locals are talking about starting a betting pool to predict when the whole thing will go boom. I wouldn't want to be surfing right there when that happens. There hasn't been particularly strong surf, nor an earthquake, nor a parade of tanks along the ocean, so it is a mystery why it's letting go.
