A New Day

Kirkwall Palaces

Backblip

A cool and showery day at times, but we visited Kirkwall and enjoyed clambering round the ruins of two palaces close to the Cathedral.  This is the Earl's Palace and the extra shows the earlier Bishop's Palace, both with excellent information boards to give you a good idea what they once looked like.

A quick visit to St Magnus Cathedral because I'm afraid I found the interior too dark to see very much, but it was certainly impressive.

A delicious meal this evening in a hotel in Dounby in the centre of the Mainland, where we enjoyed superb Orkney beef medallions.  A very pleasant drive taking the long way back where we marvelled at just hoe flat the island is compared to where we live:-)  You can see for miles in every direction!
