A day in the life

City gate

The renovation of the remaining city wall, built to defend Kalmar during the Baltic sea wars in the 1600ds, has completed yet another section. This time one of the big gates into the city, called "Kavaljeren" "The Cavalier", completed in 1697.

Because of neglect and ignorance during a long period the buildings has been falling apart due to use of bad materials not designed for the job. The increasing historic interest and knowledge of traditional building methods has resulted into decisions to save Kalmars unique fortification system including the castle and the remaining walls and city gates.

The morning was spent at the canoe club testing different kayak models. I've been suffering from a back pain that has taken the joy out of kayaking.  I can't sit in the position for very long before the pain starts so I'm now trying to find a model that has a seat working for my back. So far no luck.

The extra is from "The sunset sessions", an outdoor concert with local artists performing at Alvaret on Öland. a very pleasurable evening, finishing at sunset.
