... to be chatting on a cell phone. Sounded like a mature woman's voice on the other end, so was mother in the shop, with earbuds, talking to her very young daughter, on the babysitting cell phone, while she did her shopping? 

Ten minutes later, when I left the store and returned to the car, she was still engrossed in conversation.
