Ta Moko

We were out walking by the lake this morning and saw this man walking in full Maori traditional dress and he had a moko (traditional tattoo) on his face. In the extra, he offered to Pukana- I.e. a facial expression commonly seen in Maori Haka and performances. It is to show strong emotions, and not necessarily a sign of aggression.
As I chatted to him, I discovered he was there to give a formal welcome to a tourist group and to explain some of the Maori culture to them. He does this regularly, but today was the first time I had seen him.
I told him his photo was my “Blip” for today, and he seemed very happy about that.
