twinned with trumpton

Onto the bikes and off on an adventure; to Waverley armed with a packed lunch and a plan.

We got a train out to W Lothian; the plan had been to go to Armadale and say hi to my mate Weird Al and then cycle into Livingston in search of outlet store clothing, but it didn't quite work out that way...

We left Bathgate and the train said 'next stop Drumgelloch' - missing out Armadale, Caldercruix and Blackridge.... oops! So we got off at Drumgelloch and waited 10 minutes before a train went back east. We briefly contemplated riding back east but an additional 10 miles uphill was a daunting prospect (mostly for Alex; had it been just Tom and I then we might have just gone for it)
We got off at Blackridge and found the cycle path and duly headed off down hill with a tail wind. Stopped in the middle of nowhere for a restorative sandwich and apple and then swept thru Armadale (Al was at a meeting in Govan) and onto Bathgate to use the Metro / McDonald vouchers wisely.
Then around Bathgate and to the Pyramids and a clamber over a few of them - slippery in the wet long grass, but fun nonetheless.
Onwards across the M8 and to bypass Seafield; all meadows and wild flowers and butteflies and moths and birdsong.
Before too much longer we crept into the whisky warehouses of Livingston's periphery ( you smell it before you see it) and onto a maze of underpasses and paths.
Around 4 we ended up at Almondvale / Tony Macaroni Arena / home of Livingston FC for a neb; see extra.
Lidl for sugar and liquid and then the shopping centre; a cheap pair of work trousers and then onto the last leg; the final mile and a half to Livingston South station.

A train into town; to hers for a well earned chicken with beetroot / carrot / mozzarella dinner.
And finally around 8 we slithered down the Mound (take note MReid) and homeward for hot baths and liquid replenishment.
42km and much exploring was done. Although the sun never came out and the rain never really started it was great fun.
