This woodpecker...

... seemed to be glaring at the camera from the bird feeder at Harlow Carr this morning. It was a sudden flick of the head towards me, with seeds flying past.

The great spotted woodpecker wasn't one to fly off and back again at intervals -  preferring to stay at the feeder for a good fifteen minutes, surrounded by a selection of smaller garden birds. So no chance of a picture in a more natural environment.
