Carrickfergus Castle

THURSDAY

We headed south to explore the coastal towns and glens between Cushendall and Carrickfergus, stopping off at a couple of GOT locations en-route.

The blip is Carrickfergus Castle. It's where William III (William of Orange) first set foot in Ireland in 1690.

Tonight is "eleventh night" when the towering bonfires are lit as part of the Ulster Protestant Celebrations. Tomorrow is Orangemen's Day when marches will be held to celebrate the Battle of the Boyne (1690) when the Protestant William of Orange defeated the Catholic King James II.

We dined "upstairs ay Joe's" - a highly recommended seafood restaurant and music venue in Cushendall.
