Sealed with a Kiss

What an exciting finish to the JWOC 2019. We arrived as the first GB W20 Megan was out in the forest. The radio tracking was not as accurate as it might have been but at the spectator control she was not far down on the leaders and held on to send Speedy Fiona out on the trail of the leaders. She quickly moved into second place coming through the spectator control in sight of the Russian leader but lost a bit of time on the final group of controls. Grace went out down by just a minute. However the Russian had won gold in the individual event ahead of Grace in bronze. The tracking feedback was not helpful and it was not until we saw her leading by just a few seconds at the spectator control that we all got very excited. The last loop was tricky so we held our breath until the run in. GB had won gold! Wahooooo!!

The men’s team were 6th which placed them on the podium and following the ceremony presented the gold medalists with fetching hand crafted head wear. I couldn’t resist this photo.

I then had to head out into the forest for my run. Fortunately I had a good lead in the Tour overall competition so decided on having a clean run. Very pleased to have won W60. We then drove to Copenhagen for a late flight home arriving just after 1am. What a day!
