Pictorial blethers

Fiat Lux ...

Or at least let there be candlesticks! The lectern in Holy Trinity Dunoon has been without its candlesticks for quite some time now, ever since it was discovered that their bases were riddled with woodworm. Having just had new floor put in, the vestry were unwilling to let the little blighters loose on it, so the candle holders were put away, their offending bits wrapped in plastic ...

Until now, when they have been restored, with new feet and another section replaced on one of them. It's looked so bare without them, though now that they're back I find it hard to think they were ever away.

Such a lovely day, today - we went out late in the afternoon for a brief walk along the West Bay, where it actually looked a bit like the holiday resort it used to be. I exaggerate: I have photos of my grandparents sitting on the West Bay beach (grandfather in a three-piece suit and a panama hat) which is seething with people and boat-hirers, now no more. But at least there was someone waterskiing offshore, and several dogs chasing stones, balls or shadows into the sea, and a crowd enjoying the sun and the booze in an open-air bar that I've never seen in use before.

No-one in a three-piece suit, however.
