beautifulcontradictions

By ColPepper

that was the year that was

Take down the tapestries and banners from the walls
Take up the rushes and matting from the floors
Let the earthen drinking mugs shatter as they fall
Break down and burn up the last of the doors

Pack up all the fine silver and gold
It is for fools remove it hence
The old year is past and we have sold
Ourselves for a purse-full of trifling vulgar pence

so what?
