Allendale New Year Tar Bar'l Celebration

What do Robin Hood, the Stig, a Mexican & Abraham Lincoln all have in common!?

No, this is not another terrible Christmas cracker joke, the answer is quite simple. The Allendale New Year Tar Bar'l Celebration unites this unlikely rabble, along with aprox 41 other fancy dress clad, local, born & bred gents.

In honour of the New Year, & without the need to consider the prospect of a sore head tomorrow morning (although Jen, FonF & myself did enjoy a glass or few of some sparkling before we left the house!), I put my mind to penning a little poem...

The crowds they gathered in Allendale square,
From the young to old (up 101 years to be precise),
They queued, huddled & waited for ages,
Sweet songs & tunes coming from the band & choir,
With Mummy C keeping warm inside, our numbers trice,
To glimpse the blazing Allendale bonfire in all its stages.
