Musée de Beaux Arts

We visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon this afternoon. It is very large--second only to the Louvre in size among French museums, housed in a 17th /18th Benedictine convent. We entered through this beautiful courtyard, originally the convent's cloister--an intriguing example of the secularization of French society. The museum's exhibits range widely from Egyptian times to contemporary art. Paintings represent much the largest single collection, from medieval to modern.  We had lunch on a pleasant exterior terrace.  Altogether a very worthwhile and enjoyable afternoon.
