Caen Hill Locks

On the Kennet and Avon Canal between Devizes and Lower Foxhangers is a series of 29 locks over a distance of two miles to allow boats to navigate the 237 feet of Caen Hill. The steepest part is covered by 16 locks in a continuous flight and is a scheduled ancient monument.

From here we revisited the Westbury White Horse (extra photo) but this time it was too windy for me to climb down to ride, as I did with a friend 45 years ago. Compensation came with sighting of several marbled white butterflies on Bratton Camp.
