My Year in Pictures

Los Hervideros

Backblipped 20th July

A day out today taking in the west of the island this time.

Down to Puerto Calero to admire the boats in the marina (and regret having brekkie at home as stopped for coffee in the most gorgeous cafe with a delicious brunch menu!).

Down to Playa Blanca - where we literally drove in and out! And then up to Salinas de Janubio. Not quite as colourful as some of the pictures we'd seen, however still an amazing sight and very pleased the shop was open too as would have been a huge shame not to have come home with some salt!

A short drive up to Los Hervideros which was fabulous - what amazing shapes have been made over time as the lava has eroded on the sea edges. And we really were in volcano/lava field zone here - quite incredible to be on a road surrounded completely by lava!

Drove up to Timanfaya National Park as really wanted to see the view from the top by the restaurant - though hadn't quite realised we'd have to pay just to get there. And also then didn't realise that entrance fee included the coach tour round the lava fields (no cars allowed in this area!). Hadn't been fussed about doing that but thought why not as we'd paid. And goodness it was so worth it!!! Quite incredible following a twisty turny road through the lava fields on a huge coach and not at all what we'd imagined when we'd heard the words "coach tour"!!!

Can't believe it's our last night though - where has the week gone!!!
