Sgwarnog: In the Field

James Vaughan slots a penalty past the Wigan keeper David Marshall to put Bradford City into a deserved lead in this pre-season friendly.

I’m hoping Vaughan is going to have a good season, not just because I like seeing all former Everton players do well, but City have invested a lot in bringing him to Valley Parade and it would be good for everyone at the club to see a return on that. From the three pre-season games we’ve seen so far he is certainly providing a physical presence and hold up play which the club have been lacking since the departure of Charlie Wyke.

Wigan equalised in the second half, but you really couldn’t tell these clubs are now two leagues apart. Adam played the final half an hour today as the playing minutes were spread around the squad, and earned a couple of rounds of applause for some neat play.

11yo and I got to spend some time in the hallowed 1911 Suite before the game but we felt a bit awkward so headed into the main stand for the match. I’m sure it will be a bit different when we have other family there too.
