Museum of Modern Art

Today we visited the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) on Dublin’s outskirts, beyond Heuston Station.  Our goal was an engrossing exhibition on Jack B. Yeats and Lucian Freud, who were contemporaries and friends. The show is relatively small, but beautifully displayed, more or less alternating paintings.  Another show was by the contemporary Colombian artist, Doris Salcedo (born 1958 in Bogotá), entitled “Acts of Mourning,” with objects intended to reflect the socio-political violence of her country and its effect on individuals. Late in the afternoon we taxied back to the National Gallery of Ireland, solely for a show of 100 prints by members of the Bauhaus in Germany in 1921-24. I had looked forward to this, but found it disappointing;  a fair number of the works were by artists and/or did not appeal to me; they were very dry (not surprisingly).
