Wandering octopus

It was a drizzly day today so we were glad we'd decided to go on a Shellfish Safari.
The island we were staying on is owned by a local shellfish fisherman and, as well as having some holiday accomodation, he makes some extra money by taking people out on his boat when he goes out to check the creels. The last time we'd stayed there we hadn't made one of his trips so were determined to do so this year and it was well worth it.
Ian is very knowledgable about the sealife and told us about all the things that came up in the creels (many of which were returned to the sea as they weren't for eating or too small).
There were the langoustines, squat lobsters, lobsters and various sorts of crabs that would mainly be exported (esp to Spain), 4 sorts of starfish, butterfish, inedible crabs and this octopus. We also had skuas waiting for any titbits, porpoises not far away and seals on the rocks.
At the end we got some of the catch to take away to cook and eat - though the brown crab was very hard to get into!.
Later we went to the local community cafe for lunch, visited the Tuesday local market, checked out possible kayaking venues and did an archaeological walk in Gairloch where many roundhouses have been discovered, as well as old farming systems. (extra)
Back "home" I went for a short run and we then went to the inn across the bay - by boat as Ian was going, as well and why refuse a ride.
