Meccano Box?

This is F and brother B’s Meccano box before it’s restored. It was passed to them by a kind elderly uncle 60 years ago. It must be well over 100 years old now and they’d like to know if this toy was really ever sold new in such a well made box.

It is 14x8x4 1/2inches high, of mahogany , with a sliding lid now lost. Three internal trays of different depths with divisions for various components. Box and trays finely machine dovetailed together at corners with thin mahogany sheets for bottoms.

Early sets 1-6 were sold in tin boxes apparently.
