Kancho

Kancho Jack Sims sensei, head of Chidokan karate in NZ, was my teacher as a boy. He is again now, but remotely: we send videos back and forth. I am, in fact, massively privileged; the amount of input and personalised teaching he gives me is truly wonderful.

Here I’ve taken a photo of a freeze-frame in a video he sent me of the kata Wankan. It's a very short kata, but it nevertheless has a lot of depth, and much to study. It's also a kata I really love - so I'm particularly pleased to be re-learning it properly, with the subtle differences our version in Chidokan has compared to the usual Shotokan version.
