Sgwarnog: In the Field

Amateur

No need for water breaks at the football today, it was delivered from above in great quantity. There were a number of postponements and abandoned games among today’s local fixtures so I was lucky to select one that went ahead and lasted the course.

Yorkshire Amateur are one of the famous old clubs of Leeds but this was my first visit to their ground at Bracken Edge. Whitley Bay of the Northern League were the visitors for this pre-season friendly. The Ammers started brightly but Whitley Bay took the lead, punishing an under hit back pass. Thereafter the game was even and competitive, but Whitley Bay scored a second through a penalty to end up 0-2 winners.

The season proper gets underway next weekend.
