my son called me over hey mom there's a blue bird
I jumped from the couch while he chuckled with glee
grabbing my camera I fumbled the lenses
trying to see oh oh trying to see.

I spotted a wren deep bellied in size
on a fluff ball of buff its barred feathers lay
a newcomer bringing delight to my eyes
on this cold but so wonderful New Year's day.
