Bella Napoli

Lots of pretty headless running around trying to prepare for daughter Kate and family arriving at around 18:00 from Dublin. But at least I got to Memmingen airport with perfect timing - luckily as they whizzed through passport control this time.

Short stop-off at home to unload before we set off for dinner. In a phone call a few weeks ago, I had agreed with grandson Elliot that we would go to the Pizza place in the next village which they had tried last year and had unanimously voted as very good. However, as I turned left out the gate, there were sighs of "where are we going?". Transpired there was some misunderstanding and they wanted to go to the Pizzeria at the Sports Centre in Ottobeuren. Instead of doing a U-turn, we did a longer sightseeing detour but finally got to the new destination.

Hunger was at breaking point as we opened the doors only to be greeted by 100+ parents and children filling the entire large entrance hall and restaurant area with some kind of special party complete with microphones and entertainers. We turned around and left.

In the town, there are several Italian/Pizza places so we headed to the centre. Approaching the first two neighbouring places, we could see the tables outside packed. We left town and later learnt this weekend was a highlight of the annual Ottobeuren Concert programme in the Basilica.

Laughing we drove back past our house to Pizza Napoli in Sontheim and just as last year had an excellent meal, this time sitting outdoors. It isn't exactly the most attractive restaurant but the food and prices are very good. If I was one to eat out, I would probably use it more often but I suspect the last restaurant meal I had was the one we enjoyed a year ago.

Now very tired, we retired home. Father & grandfather feeling very happy.
