Pinecones

Some Blippers will instantly recognise this beautiful doorway and lovely windows, with all the detailed carving, and will know where I have been this afternoon.

A few months ago I suggested our village book group could read 'The Pinecone' by Jenny Uglow - the story of Sarah Losh, the  19th century architect and visionary  who designed this unique and wonderful church in the village of Wreay, near Carlisle. And then I thought we could have a trip out to look at the church. Today there was a gathering of eight of us (not all book group members) and we had an excellent afternoon. Everyone was delighted with the church, especially those who had read the book. As we sat in the Heritage Centre close by, we had a lively discussion about women and their lives in the past.Amazing that only two of us had been before and it is not that far from where we live. But then I only discovered it a few years ago. A hidden gem that I am pleased to have introduced to a few more people.

And it stayed fine for us. We now have rumbles of thunder and a lot of rain.
