Thanking my lucky stars that I was not around in 1954 otherwise I might have been spending my days squashing myself into this little creation!!
Noticed this sign on the wall in the local micro brewery tonight. It made me smile.
Letchworth Garden City was the town I moved to when I left home many moons ago...
Apart from being the First Garden City, and home of the first roundabout it was also known for Irving Berlins parachutes, hand made dolls prams and corsets made by Spirella.
The first home I ever owned backed on to the old derelict Spirella building. In the 10 yrs I lived there the building looked very sad....
Until one day it got renovated. Yippee!
Thesedays it holds a conference centre, beautiful landscaped gardens, a huge ballroom with sprung dance floor & a cafe. It’s been so lovely to see the building have new life breathed back into it. It’s a lovely place to be.
I’ve especially loved dancing in Spirella - it’s magical and home to an annual Strictly Come Dancing Competition for our local hospice.
I loved living in Letchworth and although I now live a few miles away am still very much involved with the local community.
