Morning View - Wallowa Mountains, Oregon

I feel very blessed to be able to visit this beautiful place - the town of Joseph in north eastern Oregon. And even more blessed to have this view of the Wallowa Mountains to wake up to each morning of my visit. It’s no wonder this area is often called the Little Switzerland of Oregon.

I woke up early and watched the sun rise (behind me) and enjoyed the cool temperature while drinking my morning cup of tea. I also went for a short walk with John’s two dogs, Annie and Brodie. All before 7am! It gets hot here during the day so I love this early time!

Once everyone else was up a couple of hours later, things got busy! Today was the big parade for the ‘Chief Joseph Days Rodeo’ weekend. Someone went down to town super early to set up chairs for us in a shaded spot. The parade was at 10 and was very entertaining, celebrating the western heritage of this area, with lots of cowboys, cowgirls, the Rodeo Queens from 2019 and past years, a couple of stagecoaches and INDIANS! And flags! Lots of flags! See first Extra photo.

After the parade our friend John hosted friends and family at his annual Joseph Days BBQ. There was LOTS of delicious food! See second Extra photo. Annie and Brodie got lots of attention and lapped it up, but finally were exhausted enough to sleep while the humans did the socialising. There was a little bit of time for chillaxing in the late afternoon and no one felt hungry enough for dinner.

This evening it was back to the arena for the last of the Rodeo evenings. It was busier tonight and awards were given for the winners of the different events. See yesterday’s Extra photo if you missed it - for a few scenes from last night’s Rodeo.
