Monday Morning Coffee

The way to get maximum pleasure from a cup of coffee is to drink it after Pilates class with this group. I should have had OilMan take my seat next to Bob for this picture as I can't fit him into the thumbnail. That was not intentional.

Today was Dana's last Pilates class. School here starts next week and she will be back to teaching. It seems like the Fall term starts earlier every year. This is more like the middle of summer! I will miss Dana's company in class and at coffee,  but she has convinced OilMan to take her place in class! As you can see, Dana is the unusual one in this group in more ways than gender.

When we left Berkeley, the thing I knew I would miss the most was an informal gathering (almost always just women) at Peet's for coffee after swimming or exercise class at the Claremont Hotel across the street. We lived in a Berkeley bubble, politically, to the extent that one woman joined us one morning saying, " I just saw a car in the Claremont parking lot and it had a Republican  bumper sticker!"

I did miss that group and it has taken almost seven years for another coffee gathering to develop...and it is even better. Bob is a psychiatrist and as a resident at San Francisco General Hospital, specialized in treating the survivors of bad trips, good trips and all kinds of trips in between. I imagine he took a few himself....He has many a story to tell. Larry, sitting next to Dana at the end of the table, taught English at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa and has a few stories of his own.

Tomorrow the porch floor is getting sanded, and Wednesday the roofer comes to look at the damage that started all this, give us an estimate for repairs and talk to us about solar panels. Heaven knows we get enough sun on our roof. It seems almost criminal not to convert what we can into energy....
