Diary of an Edinburgher

Fife Day One

And we're off! Christine kindly came to collect Archie this morning and take him straight up the hill. JR didn’t want to miss her gym session (who says she's obsessed?) and so we set off over the Queensferry Bridge after that.

We headed for Pittenweem, a cute wee coastal village in the East Neuk of Fife. There's an art exhibition on there for a week or so, and you wander round, looking in peoples' houses at their art work. We weren’t tempted to buy anything, except an ice cream.

It was sunny and warm, but I struggled with the steep slopes, and couldn’t find the fabled 'shuttle bus' to and from the car park, which was miles away in a field.

Next we headed along the coast to Anstruther for a fish and chip lunch. Amazingly enough, there were only a few seagulls, and none of them pestering the lunchers. But that's because they're all in Edinburgh!

Onwards to our B&B - although they're not doing the second Bs at the mo - suits us, plenty of places to go. And it's just along the road from the most fantastic Farm Shop, Balgove Larder. We've popped in there before, so knew about it. A very decent flat white (£2.30!). There was a night market on this evening, and so once we'd checked in to our B &B, we popped back along to the shindig. Live band, lots of local foods and beers, gins and ciders, though we passed on the 'butchery demonstration'... The 'Steak Barn' was rammed full of punters and local artisan suppliers, but almost too crowded to get in to the numerous and varied free samples... but I took this shot in the afternoon - what a great place, really really rustic!

Meanwhile, Archie has made himself at home, and commandeered Christine's lap. That's Rufus on the floor. (Extra).
