Hastings

I've probably mentioned this before but if you were brought up in the UK and taught about 1066 and all that there's a good chance that you were misled. First up, Billy didn't land at Hastings but down the coast at Pevensey, probably because the parking is a great deal cheaper and when you've got an invading army to look after that's the sort of detail that's important. Some of his ships were blown off course and landed at Romney (on the marsh) and got into some scrapes down there. William and his guys wandered down to Hastings where they built a castle and (I'm guessing) had a go on the crazy golf - the UK Crazy Golf Championship takes place there each year. Anyway, William sent out scouts and they found a brilliant spot for a battle - it's called Battle! So the "Battle of Hastings" took place at Senlac Hill which is about 6 miles from Hastings - thus they started a tradition still upheld by Ryanair.

This is Hastings pier, I was there for a meeting with a colleague this afternoon.
