Otoshidama

An early blip, 0630, before the kids get up because today is sure to be hectic. We are off to Tokyo Disney Resort today and, wouldn't you know it, I've got a sudden toothache. So, another thing to get sorted before we leave at 2010.

It's another Japanese New Year tradition; otoshidama. Adults traditionally give these envelopes to children in their extended family. Inside the envelopes is the otoshidama, or New Year's allowance. These otoshidama are from Valerie's uncles, aunts and grandfather. I took this photograph using a special "cartoon" function (my own technical term) because I thought it looked bright, colourful and made a fitting segue into the cartoon realm of Disney. Come back for the retro-blips in a few days' time. Cheerio!
