The Art Of Milan

In a world of materialism and stereotypical beauty expectations, creativity can be found even if it’s from centuries before. Cathedral del Duomo took around 500 years to build. Imagine being a builder from the very beginning, setting out to put all your time into a huge project that you would never see finished. The years that were spent slowly etching designs into the spires.

The Cathedral is extremely iconic and one of a kind not only because of the designs, but also because of the materials and style it possesses. It’s Gothic style came from one mans marriage of a French woman who introduced the Gothic style.

Traditionally, Gothic buildings were manufactured from stone. However, the man who married the French lady was the owner of a marble quarry. This meant the Cathedral would be made mainly from marble.

A young woman possibly 250 years into the process of making the Cathedral had her own ideas buzzing about her head, desperate to put her ideas into practice. She did so at home, but she wished to show it off. Unfortunately, she never got the opportunity.

An old man around 62 struggled with his breath as his shaky hands chipped away at the marble. His head hit his chest and his legs gave way beneath him.
“I can’t wait to see you when your finished.” He uttered before he took his last breath.

Is it possible that they did see it after all? Is it possible that they had such faith that they saw it finished from above? One would hope that people just like the young woman and the old man look down upon the true art of Milan.
