On the way home...

Today we drove from Henderson, NV to Wells, NV mostly on Route 93 which runs up the eastern side of Nevada through very desolate but interesting country. There is not much there but it is still very interesting.

This photo was taken at Cathedral Gorge State Park about half way into our journey. I noticed this on the map so we decided to take a short detour to this small state park. Were we ever glad we did. This stuff was amazing and weird and magical. And the small buildings and eating areas in the park were built starting in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The hills look like like molten mud but are actually much more solid than they look. We wandered all about the hills including walking up into the structures. Great place to visit. More photos Here.

We left home about 10:30 am and arrived in Wells at 6 pm. We checked into a small motel and then went to the ubiquitous casino for dinner and a tiny bit of gambling. We each got $2 worth of nickels for $1. I spent about a third of mine and ended up winning 30 more so I came out ahead.

Our trip will continue tomorrow along Route 93 up into Idaho and then into Washington State. We plan to be back home by saturdays.
