Life Lessons

This morning, Clive and I were up bright and early to make our way to a special place off the Bay of Fundy where the Semipalmated Sandpipers rest up and fatten up before their long journey to South America.  We were enjoying watching them en masse fly out over the water and then back into shore to re-group but they were having difficulty settling.  It wasn't long before we saw why....two Peregrine Falcons were hunting them.  It was fascinating to see the adult teaching the juvenile (in blip) how to go after the single sandpiper. If the sandpipers stay together, it is almost impossible for them to be successful. This is the juvenile, seconds before making the kill.  The parent remained a little while after trying to get one itself but no success.  How odd is that?  As horrible as it may be, it was also fascinating and exhilarating to watch nature at work!  Those peregrines are so quick but so are the sandpipers!!

I will have to backblip yesterday as we were busy till the wee hours of the morning with family arriving and lots of celebrating taking place  : )

Have a great week ahead!
