New year's Eve in the Champs Elysees

Paris doesn't really 'do' New Year's Eve. there are no fireworks or live music, the municipality doesn't organize anything. people tend to have a very lavish dinner (either at home or pay exorbitant prices at restaurants) or go to parties.

We decided to go to the Champs Elysees - it was drizzling none stop so even though there were a lot of people it was not packed. lots of policemen though (it is illegal to bring alcohol to the Champs) and they confiscated a lot of Champagne!!!

There were a few renegade fireworks by the Arc and that was it. even the Eiffel Tower played a bit with its lights for only 3 minutes. It was fun but definitely low key.

We spent the morning at Canal St Martin, then back to Les Halles and then to Opera. we dropped by the supermarket to buy some bubbly (cider) and food and ate a home before going to the Champs Elysees. S is going home tomorrow
